Timber Frame

Today I got a call from David at Custom Woodcraft Builders to inquire about when they would be able to erect the timber frame. I need to have the concrete contractor give me more detailed information about completion dates. There is a need to have three different contractors on the site before any final slabs can be poured: electrical, plumbers, and the installer of the heating system. The heating system for the addition will be comprised of a system of plastic tubes set within the slab allowing boiler heated water to run within them warming the slab.

Construction 9.21.11

Today is the first day of the rest of the project! I will be providing daily construction reports from the site of the Cabin(s) project to give accounts, challenges, successes, and maybe a little insight into a design-build start-up firm! As I stated with Wes my client, this foundation work accounts the fist time material is added to the project as opposed to removing material like excavating dirt, or demolishing drywall in the existing house.

Formwork for the foundation walls are being assembled now on the addition. The garage walls and footings are complete and we are now working towards the north side of the site towards the existing house.

Method-ology

Such a crazy house plan configur
ation that could be labeled in many different hybrid considerations: warped "datum", broken "pinwheel". In an attempt to keep all the access on one level through ramps, there is a different experience as each threshold is crossed. The house is a pathway of experience.

Quit my day job!

Today is the first day committed to the PUZZELLO LLC practice as I attempt to move forward on the Cabin(s) in the Woods project. My client has recently purchased the site so now I'm getting "where do we go from here now Mr. Architect?" text messages! Geez! ok let's go! The project has actually been in development for several months now but it was all baby steps since last October when we started thinking conceptually about the house.

Cabin(s) in the Woods

Latest PUZZELLO LLC project is a house for a middle-aged couple sited on 2.5 acres in the Broad Ripple village in Indianapolis. A short walk to many services and neighborhoods, the site achieves a splendid balance of urban connection and rural seclusion. The site contains an existing historic small house simply clad in random ashlar limestone. The site is bounded by a paved walking trail to the west, a busy thoroughfare to the east, and a river to the north. A floodway created by a long ravine sits next to where the house is sited. Filled with mature trees, the west side of the site is a magnificent natural setting and focus from the house.

The house proposal consists of creating three disparate structures formally, each containing separate functions programatically.
